Mount Kailash Tour ~ Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive in Kathmandu, transferring to hotel, briefing and orientation program, dinner and overnight at hotel.
Our guide will be to receive you at Kathmandu airport (TIA), transfer you to the hotel, and help with check-in formalities. Rest or explore the interesting streets of Kathmandu on your own overnight at the hotel.
Day 2
Kathmandu Tour
While we will apply a collect your Chinese visa, you will go for a guided tour of Kathmandu including Kathmandu Durbar square, Swoyambhunath stupa, and Bouddhanath stupa. Evening briefing about the Mt Kailash trip. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 3
Drive Kathmandu(1350m) to Zangmu/ Nyalam (3300m)
First day of your Kailash adventure! We drive from Kathmandu to Nepal Tibet border along a scenic highway. After immigration formalities at the border, you meet our Tibetan guide-driver . After some briefing, we drive to Nyalam 3300m. Rest or explore around. O/n in a hotel.
Day 4
Nyalam – Acclimatization Day, spending the whole day with a short trek.
As you gain considerable height from 1350 m in Kathmandu to 3300 m in Nyalam, it is very important we rest and acclimatize in Nyalam before further driving. Free afternoon look around. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 5
Nyalam to Saga (4450m)
First day with a long drive on the desert terrain. Driving past nomad camps and sheep and yak herds we cross the high Labung La pass at 5050m. We can see Gaurishankar, Shishapangma, and Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himalaya from the pass. Continue to drive through Khunmen Tso, Sinling, Karru Ongchen, and Peiku tso Lake (4400m). We will be crossing the river Brahmaputra ( “Yarling Tsangpo” in Tibetan ) to reach Saga (4600m). Overnight at the hotel.
Day 6
Saga to Paryang (4600m)
Before arriving in Paryang, we drive through the tiny hamlet of Zhongba while taking in the distant views of the mountains and the dusty roads. You will experience the thrill of arriving in Manasarovar the following day while praying. Spend the night at the hotel.
Day 7
Drive from Paryang to Manasarover (4558m)
It’s a long but thrilling day that only provides the first glimpse of Mount Kailash and the holy lake after several hours of driving. As you get closer to this peaceful and revered lake, you can see the historic Chiu Monastery on the lake’s northwest shore, from which you can catch a glimpse of majestic Mount Kailash. Manasarovar, the highest freshwater lake with a turquoise complexion, is surrounded by Mount Kailash, Mt. Gurula-Mandala, and Lake Rakchyas. Spending the night in a tent is simply divine.
Day 8
Drive to Darchen
We drive 30 km to Darchen, which is the starting point for the 53-kilometer, three-day Mt. Kailash Kora (circumambulation), after spending some quiet time on the shores of the holy Lake Manasarovar, with the snow-capped Gurla Mandhata 7694m just across the lake. We spend the night in a tent.
Day 9
Trek to Dira Puk (5000m)
Walking beside stunning granite cliffs and waterfalls on a day with some clouds in the pure blue sky is one of the most exhilarating experiences. Camping for the night on the 15-kilometer trek takes about seven hours.
Day 10
Trek Dira Puk- Zuthul Puk
Cross Dolma La Pass at 5670 meters on the hardest but holiest day of your pilgrimage journey. To forget yourself, simply make the holiest offering when you arrive to the top and take a seat for meditation. You will reach Zuthul Puk by late afternoon.
Day 11
Cross Cho-la (5367m) to Dzongla (4850m)
Another big day today! An early breakfast hike across the high Cho-la pass (Tsho-la) leads to a difficult ascent and then the crossing of the eastern side glacier. Cho-la’s 5,367-meter summit, which can occasionally be difficult to reach in snowy situations, provides breathtaking views of the high mountains and Cholatse Glacier. After a difficult morning and day’s hike, gently descend to the small lake on the route to Dzongla for an overnight stay.
Day 12
End of Kailash Parikrama and drive to Manasarovar
Complete the kora and drive to lake Manasarovar. Explore around or rest. O/n in camp.
Day 13
Drive to Paryang
Drive to Paryang (277km) 7-8 hr
Day 14
Drive to Paryang to Saga
Drive Paryang to Saga (230km) 7-8 hrs
Day 15
Drive to Nyalam or Zhangmu
Drive to Nyalam or Zhangmu: (245km) 6-7 hr.
Day 16
Zhangmu to Kathmandu
Driving further to Nepal and Tibet border, complete the immigration formalities, get your Nepal visa. Say goodbye to your Tibetan guide and driver. You will be received by our guide from Kathmandu and drive to Kathmandu. Overnight hotel in Kathmandu.

The Kailash Kora is a 52-km trek around the mountain, typically completed in 3 days. The highest point is Dolma La Pass (5,645m). Due to high altitude, it is considered moderately to highly difficult, requiring good physical fitness and acclimatization.
Basic guesthouses and monastery lodges are available. Food options are limited to simple Tibetan and Chinese meals. It is advisable to carry snacks and packaged food.
Since Mount Kailash is at a high altitude, travelers may experience altitude sickness (headache, nausea, dizziness). It is advised to:
- Spend a few days in Lhasa or a nearby area for acclimatization
- Stay hydrated and avoid alcohol
- Walk at a slow, steady pace
